Chapter Meeting Minutes
July 9, 2006
The
Gateway Decorative Artist meeting was held on Sunday, July 9,
2006, at the Maryland Heights Community Center. The meeting was
called to order by our President, Donna Wessel, at 1:15 p.m. All
board members were present with the exception of Recording Secretary,
Kay Vuichard, who has just recently returned home from the hospital.
In her absence, Jean Rogenhofer was asked to take the minutes
of today's meeting. Jeanne Abraham gave the invocation.
Acknowledgement
was given to Ellen Rohne for receiving her CDA award at National
in June. Congratulations, Ellen. Our chapter is proud of you.
Judy
Sloan made a motion to accept the minutes as printed in the Newsletter.
Motion was seconded and carried. Donna asked for a show of hands
to accept the Treasurer's report. This was accepted.
Donna
made an announcement about the "Glass in the Garden" exhibit at
the Missouri Botanical Gardens that is on display until October
31st.
Donna
asked for a volunteer to be the Nominating Chair for next year's
officers. Unfortunately, no one volunteered at the meeting.
Gloria
Falk announced that the Retreat class selections were on display
and registration would begin today. The Retreat Booklets are also
available today. There are some extra color booklets available
if anyone would like one. These are $2.00 each. Josee Laferriere
did the cover of the Retreat Booklet. Our thanks to Josee. This
year's retreat will include a continental breakfast. Anyone signing
up for a class is also responsible for paying the teacher for
the surface, whether or not they show up for class.
Vada
Galvan has painted a beautiful wooden chair for our chapter, which
is on display at today's meeting. Chances are $1.00 each.
Cheryll
Wlburn announced that Turning Point thanks us for all the donations
we have given them. They really appreciate our help. We still
need boxes painted for the Memory Box Program. Heart shaped boxes
available and we need volunteers to paint them. Books were given
to all those who painted Memory Boxes during the first quarter.
Marilyn Hartnett gave a report on Janelle Johnson's Seminar and
said that she received the shipment for all those that ordered
patterns and pencils from Janelle. However, she forgot to bring
them to the meeting today, but will see that everyone gets their
order.
Plans are being made for the Christmas Party and volunteers are
needed to help.
A Seminar has been scheduled with Lynne Deptula for next March
23, 24 and 25. Photos are on display at the meeting today and
registrations are now being accepted. Janelle Johnson will he
coming back next year on June 23 and 24 for another colored pencil
seminar.
Donna
received an e-mail from Dennis Knapp at Martin Weber, advising
that they will advertise SDP and chapters on the PBS station.
Michaels will also support the program. Gift certificates will
be given to chapters who write a letter to the PBS station thanking
them for their support. Marilyn Hartnett has already written a
thank you letter from our chapter, so we should be getting a gift
certificate.
Donna
thanked the refreshment committee for today's refreshments and
table centerpieces. Refreshments for the September meeting will
be hosted by Lida Gillham, Judy West and Cathy Somraty.
Lori
Reece announced that 34 members were present today and 2 guests.
She asked for donations of books or items to be used for attendance
prizes and guest gift bags.
Jo

River, Illinois.
Jenny Ellison's Girl Scout Awards are on display at today's meeting.
After
the meeting
today we will have a paint-in of a candy cane on a door hanger.
Kay Vuichard prepared this project for us to paint but due to
illness, she was not able to be here to teach it. Mary Jo Kumer
has volunteered to do this for Kay.
Josee
announced that the next Newsletter deadline would be August 7th.
With
no further business, Mary Jo Kumer made a motion to adjourn the
meeting. This was seconded by Carol Rufkahr. Motion carried. The
meeting adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
Respectfully
submitted,
